Russell R Christianson was born
and raised in Tacoma, Washington. He grew up fishing in the saltwater of Puget Sound and in the surrounding
rivers, lakes, ponds, and streams. After serving in the US Navy from 1969 to 1973, he attended the Fisheries Technician
School at Peninsula College in Port Angeles, Washington. He did volunteer fisheries work at Washington State
and Federal fish hatcheries, and in the Olympic National Park. He retired in 2009 from a career at the Boeing Company as a
Tool and Production Planner writing work instructions for building both military and commercial airplanes. His love of salmon
sportfishing, and his career in researching and writing, led him to start writing books and magazine articles about the history
of salmon sportfishing. Russ has also been contacted as an expert to help create museum displays and to give talks at
museums and fishing clubs.
